Pet Care Insurance
If you own a pet then you probably already realise that vet's bills can be a huge drain - especially if your pet has a serious accident or gets a critical illness. For most of us pets are part of the family and we do want to get them the care they need - but sometimes it can be hard to know where the money will come from.
Consequently more and more of us are taking out pet care insurance to help cover the cost of vet's bills. Let's see what it can do for you.
Pet care insurance coverage
Pet care insurance won't cover basic care such as general check ups or standard treatments (such as worming and inoculations, for example). You can buy policies that do different things but, in general, you'll get cover for:
- Illnesses
- Accidents
Some policies will also give you public liability cover so if your pet causes damage to a third party/somebody's property then you'll be covered against being sued. Other additional benefits here can include:
- Reward and advertising costs if your pet goes missing or is stolen.
- Money to repay the cost of your pet if it dies.
- Burial costs and bereavement counselling.
- Kennel/cattery costs if you need someone to look after your pet if you go into hospital.
- Dental treatment.
- Payments to recover holiday costs if you cannot go away because your pet is ill/has an accident.
