Animal Cages
There are a range of alternatives you can look at when it comes to buying animal cages. These cages can be used for a variety of purposes depending on the animal in question and what the cage is needed for. Let’s look at some of the more common uses:

- Animal cages as homes: Many small animals will live in specially designed cages. For example, if you have a hamster then you may buy it a hamster cage to live in. This can be anything from a small box sized cage through to a larger high-tech multi-storey home. Guinea pigs are also often kept in cages although the size of the cage may need to be bigger here given that the animals are slightly larger.
- Animal cages for occasional use: Some owners of larger animals may occasionally use a cage to give them somewhere to sleep safely or to keep them out of the way for periods of time. So, for example, a dog cage may be useful at mealtimes if your dog tends to beg at the table but you don’t want to shut it out of the room. This cage needs to be big enough for the dog to feel comfortable and secure in. Many larger pets actually prefer to sleep in a cage rather than in a basket and this will also stop them roaming round the house at night.
- Animal cages for travel use: Many pet owners will use cages when they need to transport their pets securely and safely. So, for example, they may buy a cage to carry a cat in if they need to take it to the vet’s for a check-up. Car cages can also be useful here, especially for cats and dogs. If you are, for example, taking your pet on holiday with you then this can be a good way of giving them somewhere to sit in the car safely without running the risk of them moving around too much.
It is important to pick the right animal cages for the pets that will be using them. Even a mouse or a hamster needs some space. Cages that aren’t used as living quarters but that are only meant for occasional use should only be used every now and then. Shutting a dog or a cat in a cage for a long period would be cruel and may be best avoided.
